Recently appointed the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) Minister, Dame Angela Eagle has wasted no time in affirming the government’s support for the agricultural technology sector.
In her first public appearance since the recent cabinet reshuffle, Eagle spoke at the World Agri-Tech Innovation Summit, where she expressed support for the sector’s future. She highlighted the government’s ambition to drive “greater growth, greater profitability for our farmers, and resilient food systems in this volatile era”.
During her address, Eagle unveiled, AgriScale, a new pilot programme designed to support agri-tech businesses as they transition from startup to scale-up. The initiative aims to tackle key manufacturing challenges faced by growing companies in the sector.
AgriScale is a cross-government collaboration involving DEFRA, Innovate UK, the High Value Manufacturing Catapult, the Manufacturing Technology Centre, and the Warwick Manufacturing Group.
Eagle’s speech signals a commitment to collaboration between government and industry.
