On 23 June, the UK Government released its Modern Industrial Strategy, outlining a new economic approach that builds on the nations strength and features agri-tech and precision breeding, marking a significant step forward for the UK farming industry.
The UK Government states ‘the document sets out the Industry Strategy' and the 10-year plan aims to 'increase business investment in 8 growth-driving sectors, by making it quicker and easier for businesses to invest and providing them with the certainty and stability needed for long-term investment decisions.'
With agri-tech positioned under the ‘advanced manufacturing’ strand and precision breeding included in the ‘digital and technology’ strand, UK farmers and growers can expect new opportunities to support national growth, create jobs, and reduce emissions, increase productivity, and attract investment in sustainable food, fibre, and energy production.
This marks an important acknowledgement of the role innovation and technology play in advancing UK agriculture.
